ABS Launches New Website

• The American Board of Surgery (ABS) is pleased to introduce a fresh redesign of its website, www.absurgery.org, to serve its varied audiences.
• The new website features responsive design, meaning it is designed to work equally well on a desktop, tablet or smartphone. Roughly 25% of visitors to the ABS website are using a mobile device, and that audience appears to be increasing over time. Through this new mobile-friendly site, users can now visit the website and interact with the ABS at their convenience.
• The new design also features three key color-coded areas, to address the needs and interests of the majority of website visitors: Training & Certification, Maintenance of Certification, and For the Public. Visitors can also easily check a surgeon's certification status right from the homepage.
• The new website design and functionality was tested several times with a cross-section of ABS website users. Many thanks to the candidates, diplomates, training programs, and others who provided their input in shaping this new site. About the ABS

• The American Board of Surgery is an independent, nonprofit organization founded in 1937 for the purpose of certifying individuals who have met a defined standard of education, training and knowledge in the field of surgery. Surgeons certified by the ABS have completed at least five years of surgical training following medical school and successfully completed a written and oral examination process administered by the ABS. They must then maintain their board certification through ongoing learning and practice improvement activities.
• The ABS offers board certification in general surgery, vascular surgery, pediatric surgery, surgical critical care, complex general surgical oncology, surgery of the hand, and hospice and palliative medicine. It is one of the 24 member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties.
