SCORE Releases Patient Care Curriculum Outline

The Surgical Council on Resident Education (SCORE) has released a Patient Care Curriculum Outline for general surgery residency, marking the first step in the development of a new curriculum for general surgery training in the U.S. The curriculum outline is being distributed this week at the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS) annual meeting.
The Patient Care Curriculum Outline contains a listing of patient care topics to be included in a curriculum for a five-year general surgical residency training program. In addition, it specifies in general terms the depth and breadth of training that is expected for each. This outline has been approved as the basis for a full patient care curriculum currently under development by SCORE and the American Board of Surgery.
