Call for Volunteers - Certifying Examiners
Feb. 21, 2018
- The American Board of Surgery (ABS) seeks volunteers to serve as oral examiners for the General Surgery Certifying Examination. The time commitment for an ABS Certifying Examiner is approximately 10 days per year, which includes two oral exams of 3-4 days each, as well as examiner training. Oral exams and training sessions will require travel to Philadelphia and other major U.S. cities, paid for by the ABS. Mandatory examiner training for 2018 will take place in Philadelphia on August 14-15.
- To ensure continuity, examiner terms will be staggered; examiners will be asked to serve for two, three, or four years. You may also be asked if you want to continue your service for an additional three-year term beyond your initial term. ABS oral examiners must be certified for at least five years, and are required to meet the ongoing requirements for maintaining their ABS general surgery certification.
