Oct. 15, 2018
The 2018 ABS General Surgery Continuous Certification Assessment registration deadline has been extended to accommodate our diplomates who may not have had time to register for this year's window. For diplomates with general surgery certificates expiring this year, if you do not register and complete the assessment by Nov. 5, 2018 (or recertify), you will lose your certification at the end of 2018.
To register for the assessment:
You have two weeks to complete the assessment once you begin, with the opportunity to save your progress and continue at a later time during this two-week period. The last day to begin the assessment to ensure that you have the full two weeks is Monday, Oct. 22, 2018. All access to the assessment will close on Nov. 5, 2018.
Please note: Your personal two-week time limit will start the moment you click the “Begin” button on the ABS portal – do not click it until you are absolutely ready to begin your assessment.
Diplomates have typically spent 20% less time to complete this new assessment than it took to complete the traditional recertification exam at a testing center. It has taken an average of just over four hours from start to finish, including both attempts.
